About these mother's day worksheets

These Mother's Day worksheets give children a gift to make and real skills to practice. Preschoolers color a fold-up card, draw for an All About My Mom page while a grown-up writes their words, count flowers, trace paths to a gift and dot a heart. Kindergartners write inside a card, finish an All About My Mom page, make helper coupons, trace Mother's Day words, add with pictures and color by sight word. 1st graders write a letter, fill in an All About My Mom questionnaire, read a story about a surprise breakfast, solve word problems, work with fact families, read a picture graph and fill in a May calendar.

Every card, All About page and letter also comes in a someone special version, for a grandma, aunt, dad, foster parent or any grown-up who cares for the child. Print the version that fits each child so everyone has someone to make a gift for.

Every page is black and white, prints on US Letter or A4, and pages with one right answer have an answer key on page 2.

How to use them

  1. Make the card first. Fold it, color the front, then draw and write inside.
  2. Send home the All About page with the card, or keep a copy for a class book.
  3. Let each child choose the Mom or the someone special version. No one needs to explain why.
  4. Use the math and reading pages in the days before Mother's Day, which is the second Sunday in May.

Teaching tips

  • Preschool: write the child's words exactly as they say them. The funny answers are the best part.
  • Kindergarten: on the helper coupons, help children sound out one helping word, like "sweep" or "read".
  • 1st grade: brainstorm three reasons together before children start their letter.
  • Fold the cards on a hard surface and run a thumbnail along each fold for crisp edges.
