About these kindergarten worksheets
Kindergarten is the year children learn to read and write their first words, count to 100 and understand what numbers mean. These free kindergarten worksheets support that work with clear, uncluttered pages made for five- and six-year-olds, all designed to print in black and white.
Right now these worksheets for kindergarteners cover writing: every letter of the alphabet in uppercase and lowercase, word tracing, letter hunts with answer keys, and numbers 0 to 20 with ten frames. Math, reading, phonics, sight words, science and social studies are on the way, and each will be added as it is ready.
Over the year, kindergartners learn to name every upper- and lowercase letter and the sounds letters make, read common sight words, print many letters, write numbers 0 to 20, count to 100 by ones and tens, add and subtract within 10, and use drawing and writing to share their ideas. A worksheet is one tool for this. It works best when it is short and paired with reading aloud, counting real objects and play.
Every PDF is set up for US Letter paper with half-inch margins. Print at actual size for the cleanest tracing lines, and print as many copies as you need for your class or family.
Questions
What should my child know by the end of kindergarten?
Common Core expects kindergartners to recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters, know the most common sound for each consonant and the short and long vowel sounds, read common high-frequency words, print many letters, count to 100 by ones and tens, write numbers 0 to 20, and add and subtract within 10. Your school’s report card will have its own list.
How many worksheets should a kindergartner do a day?
At home, one or two short pages is plenty. Worksheets work best as a few minutes of focused practice next to reading together, counting real things and play.
Do I need a color printer?
No. Every worksheet is designed in black and white, and the gray tracing lines are dark enough to survive a photocopier.
Are the worksheets really free?
Yes. There are no accounts, no email sign-ups and no paywall. Download the PDF and print it.
