About these preschool worksheets
Preschool is the year children get ready for kindergarten: holding a crayon, cutting with scissors, knowing some letters and their sounds, counting small groups and talking about their feelings. These free preschool and pre-K worksheets are made for three- and four-year-olds, with big pictures, big tracing paths and one short job on each page.
Children this age cannot read yet, so every direction is a single line for the grown-up to read aloud. Most pages are hands-on: color, dot with a dot marker, trace, cut and glue, or press playdough onto a mat. Pages with one right answer have an answer key on page 2.
The worksheets follow the preschool goals most early learning programs use, from letter knowledge and counting to fine motor control and social skills, and each topic page lists the goals it practices. Every page prints in black and white on US Letter or A4.
Questions
What should a preschooler learn before kindergarten?
Most programs aim for children to recognize many letters and some of their sounds, count objects to 10, name basic shapes and colors, hold a crayon and use scissors, follow simple routines and talk about their feelings. Every child gets there at their own pace.
Are worksheets good for 3 and 4 year olds?
Short, hands-on pages work well alongside play. Keep each session to a page or two, let your child color, trace, dot or cut, and stop while it is still fun. Playdough mats, dot markers and cut-and-glue pages build hand strength for writing later.
How do I use the letter and number pages?
Pick one letter or number a week. Start with the coloring page, then the dot marker and playdough pages, and move to tracing when your child is ready. Say the sound or count out loud together as you go.
Do these work for pre-K and preschool?
Yes. The pages suit preschool and pre-K classrooms, daycare and home, for roughly ages 3 to 5. Children who need more challenge can move on to the kindergarten worksheets.
