About these thanksgiving worksheets

These Thanksgiving worksheets are about turkeys, the fall harvest, family meals and being thankful. Preschoolers color a turkey, dot turkey feathers to count, trace paths, finish patterns, play I spy and draw what they are thankful for. Kindergartners count turkey feathers, add pies, hear beginning sounds, trace Thanksgiving words, listen to a short read-aloud and write "I am thankful for". 1st graders solve turkey word problems, find missing numbers, read a story about a thankful feast, write about what they are thankful for, graph favorite foods and fill in a November calendar.

Use them in the two weeks before Thanksgiving. Each grade also has its own Thanksgiving page with a few more sheets: Thanksgiving Worksheets for Preschool, Thanksgiving Worksheets for Kindergarten and Thanksgiving Worksheets for 1st Graders.

Every page is black and white, prints on US Letter or A4, and pages with one right answer have an answer key on page 2.

How to use them

  1. Pick the group for your child's grade, or go to that grade's Thanksgiving page for the full set.
  2. Start with the I am thankful page for your grade. Share the finished pages in a class book or send them home before the break.
  3. Use the turkey math pages in the week before Thanksgiving, when a short, calm routine helps.
  4. Families celebrate in many ways. Invite children to share what their family eats and does, and accept every answer.

Teaching tips

  • Preschool: dot one feather at a time and count out loud together.
  • Kindergarten: give a word bank (family, friends, food, home, pets) so every child can write "I am thankful for".
  • 1st grade: ask for a reason with "because" so the thankful writing has a detail.
  • Not every child has a big family meal. Keep the talk about being thankful, not about what people have.
