About these christmas worksheets

These Christmas worksheets bring trees, ornaments, presents, cookies and candy canes into real skill practice. Preschoolers count ornaments, trace paths, dot a star, decorate a playdough tree and finish patterns. Kindergartners count and write, add with pictures, hear beginning sounds, color by sight word, listen to a story about a cookie swap and write about a gift they would give.

1st graders read a story about lighting up a neighbor's house, write about the best gift to give, solve Christmas word problems and addition facts, read a picture graph and a December calendar, and practice Christmas vocabulary.

The pages are secular: trees, gifts, cookies, snowmen and stockings, with no religious content. Use them in December before winter break. Each grade also has its own Christmas page with a few extra sheets. Pages with one right answer have an answer key on page 2.

How to use them

  1. Pick one or two pages a day in the two weeks before winter break, so the excitement turns into practice.
  2. Use the playdough tree and the count the ornaments page together at a math table.
  3. Read the cookie swap story, then bake or decorate cookies and count them.
  4. Send the thank-you note page home over the break.

Teaching tips

  • Not every family celebrates Christmas. Winter, snowman and gingerbread pages make good choices for children who don't.
  • The I spy and pattern pages each come with a cut and paste or no-cut choice where cutting is used.
  • On the calendar page, the month starts on the weekday printed on the sheet, so it works in any year.
