About these letter T worksheets
These letter T worksheets include uppercase T, lowercase t, the words top, tent and tub, and a letter hunt with an answer key. T makes the /t/ sound, a quick tap of the tongue behind the top teeth with no voice.
Capital T is two straight lines, which puts it among the easiest letters for new writers. Lowercase t has three details to watch: it is a tall letter that starts at the top line, its line curves forward into a small hook at the bottom, and its cross goes on the dashed midline. Children often start it too low, and the result looks like a plus sign.

How to use them
- Start with the uppercase page. Your child pulls the line down first, then slides the bar across the top so it sits evenly on both sides.
- On the lowercase page, have your child find the start dot on the top line before every t.
- Trace top, tent and tub. Put a hand on your throat and say /t/, then /d/: there is no buzz for /t/.
- Finish with the letter hunt and the answer key.
Teaching tips for T
- Uppercase T: start at the top line and pull down straight to the baseline. Lift and slide right along the top line, centered over the line you just made. Say it while writing: “1. Pull down. Lift. 2. Slide right.”
- Lowercase t: start at the top line and pull down straight. Just above the baseline, curve forward into a small hook that turns up to the right. Lift and slide right across the dashed midline. Say it while writing: “1. Pull down, curve forward. Lift. 2. Slide right.”
- Common mix-ups: t and f (f’s hook is at the top and curves left; t’s is at the bottom and curves right), a t that looks like + because it starts too low, a cross on the top line, and a capital T bar that sits off to one side.
- Quick activities: build T with two craft sticks, then slide the top stick down to the middle to turn it into a t; drape a blanket over a chair for a tent and bring in only things that start with /t/.
Questions about letter T
Where does the cross go on lowercase t?
On the dashed midline. On capital T, the bar goes along the top line.
Why does my child’s t look like a plus sign?
The line is starting too low. Lowercase t is a tall letter, so it starts at the top line. Ask your child to touch the start dot first.
Should my child make the line or the cross first?
The line first, then the cross, for both T and t. Starting with the line keeps children starting at the top, a habit that carries over to almost every letter.
