About these thanksgiving for kindergarten worksheets

These Thanksgiving worksheets for kindergarten practice the skills of late fall with turkeys, pies and family meals. Turkey math pages have children count feathers and write the number, add pies within 10 and take away feathers within 10. Phonics pages cover beginning sounds, a color by sight word turkey and a big-letter word search.

For reading and writing there is a short read-aloud about Lin saying thank you, a Thanksgiving story to put in order (cut and paste, or a no-cut version), Thanksgiving words to trace and an I am thankful writing prompt with a word bank and a drawing box. All pages are black and white, print on US Letter or A4, and pages with one right answer have an answer key on page 2. For preschool and 1st grade pages, see Thanksgiving Worksheets.

How to use them

  1. Use one page a day in the two weeks before Thanksgiving.
  2. Do the I am thankful page early, and make a class book from the finished pages.
  3. Read the story aloud before the story order page, then retell it with first, next, then and last.
  4. Use paper feathers or counters to act out the feather subtraction page.

Teaching tips

  • On the turkey feather page, mark each feather with a dot as you count so none is counted twice.
  • Stretch the first sound on beginning sounds: "ttturkey".
  • On the writing prompt, a picture plus "I am thankful for my dog" is a great kindergarten sentence.
  • Families celebrate in different ways. Every answer about food and family is a good one.
