About these thanksgiving for preschool worksheets

These Thanksgiving activities for preschool keep the turkey at the center: color a big turkey, dot the turkey feathers to count to 5, trace paths, finish harvest patterns, play Thanksgiving I spy, compare big and small and color a turkey by number. Each page has one job and a short direction for the grown-up.

The I am thankful page lets children draw and circle what they are thankful for, with no writing needed. There is also a count and glue page with a no-cut twin and a turkey playdough mat. All pages are black and white, print on US Letter or A4, and pages with one right answer have an answer key on page 2. For kindergarten and 1st grade pages, see Thanksgiving Worksheets.

How to use them

  1. Do one page at a time and name the pictures first: turkey, pie, corn, pumpkin.
  2. Use real dot markers, stickers or cereal on the dot the feathers page.
  3. Write down what each child says on the I am thankful page, then share them at circle time.
  4. Use the no-cut count and match page when scissors are not out.

Teaching tips

  • Count feathers by touching each one. Stop on the last one and say, "5. There are 5."
  • On the color by number page, color one number at a time. Point to the key together first.
  • For the playdough mat, roll snakes for the feathers and balls for the counting circles.
  • Keep thankful talk simple: people, pets, food, home and toys are all great answers.

Questions teachers and parents ask

Are these right for 3 year olds?

Yes, with a grown-up nearby. Pictures are big, each page has one job, and counting stays within 5.

Do children need to write on the I am thankful page?

No. Children draw and circle pictures. A grown-up can write down their words.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Every page with one right answer has an answer key on page 2 of the same PDF. Coloring, tracing, playdough and writing pages do not need one.

Do I need scissors?

Only for the count and glue page, which has a no-cut twin where children draw lines instead.
