About these dot marker printables worksheets

Dot markers (also called bingo daubers) are a favorite with preschoolers: one dab makes a big bright dot. Aiming for a circle and pressing straight down builds hand-eye control and strengthens the small muscles of the hand, with almost no frustration.

Every circle on these dot marker printables is about 0.9 inch across, the size of one dab. Children dot a path to help the bee reach the flower, dot along straight, wavy and zigzag lines, dot around shapes, and fill in a caterpillar, balloons, raindrops and apples on a tree.

No dot markers? Use round stickers, a cotton swab dipped in paint, small pom-poms or a crayon to color each circle.

Standards

  • ELOF P-PMP 3Child demonstrates increasing control, strength, and coordination of small muscles.
  • ELOF P-PMP 2Child uses perceptual information to guide motions and interactions with objects and other people.
  • ELOF P-MATH 9Child identifies, describes, compares, and composes shapes.

How to use them

  1. Show how to hold the marker straight up and press down once, then lift. No rubbing.
  2. Dot in order along the path and lines, from the start picture to the end, saying each dot aloud to add counting.
  3. Put a sheet of scrap paper underneath; dot markers can soak through.
  4. Name colors as you go, or ask for a pattern like red, blue, red, blue on the caterpillar.

Teaching tips

  • If the dots land outside the circles, slow down and aim before pressing.
  • Stickers are great practice for a pincer grasp: peeling and placing works the fingertips.
  • Count the dots when the page is done.
