About these dot to dot for preschool worksheets

A dot-to-dot is counting and drawing at the same time. Children say the numbers in order, find the next one, and pull a straight line to it. These dot to dot pages for preschool use big dots and big numbers, with only a few dots on each picture.

The pages grow by one number at a time: simple shapes to 3 and 4, then a house to 5, a sailboat to 6, a crown to 7, a fish to 8, a rocket to 9, and a star and a heart to 10. Dot 1 has a ring around it so children know where to start, and the last line back to 1 is already drawn.

When the lines are done, the picture appears, ready to color. Page 2 of each PDF shows the finished picture.

Standards

  • ELOF P-MATH 1Child knows number names and the count sequence.
  • ELOF P-PMP 3Child demonstrates increasing control, strength, and coordination of small muscles.
  • ELOF P-MATH 9Child identifies, describes, compares, and composes shapes.

How to use them

  1. Point to each number and count aloud together before drawing.
  2. Put a finger on 1, find 2, and draw a straight line between them. Keep going in order.
  3. Choose the page by counting skill: shapes and the house for children who count to 5, the star and heart for children who count to 10.
  4. Color the finished picture together and talk about what it is.

Teaching tips

  • If a child skips a number, count back from the last dot together.
  • Straight lines are hard at first. A short pencil and slow lines help.
  • Show page 2 first as a preview if a child likes to know what they are making.

Questions teachers and parents ask

What age are dot to dot pages for?

Simple dot-to-dots to 5 suit most 3- and 4-year-olds who are learning to count. Pages to 10 suit children who can count to 10 reliably.

Why is one line already drawn?

The line from the last number back to 1 is drawn for you, so children only count forward and the picture still closes.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Page 2 of each PDF shows the finished picture.
