These letter M worksheets for preschool give a 3 to 5 year old one simple job per page: color a big M and m, trace them, dab them with a dot marker, find them among a few other letters, listen for the M sound, cut and glue, and build the letter with playdough. Every page is big and uncluttered, with one short direction for the grown-up to read aloud.
M says /m/, the sound at the start of moon, mouse, monkey and mittens. Every picture is one young children name the same way every time, so the sound is easy to hear.
To write uppercase M: Pull down. Lift. Slant right, slant up, pull down. To write lowercase m: pull down, push up, curve forward, pull down, push up, curve forward, pull down. The tracing page uses the same letter shapes as our kindergarten pages, drawn much bigger, so nothing has to be relearned later.

No. A dot marker is the most fun, but round stickers, a crayon dab, a cotton swab dipped in paint or a cereal piece in each circle all work.
The find the letter, sound and cut and glue pages each have an answer key on page 2. Coloring, tracing, dot marker and playdough pages have no wrong answer, so they need no key.
