About these 3rd grade worksheets

Third grade is the multiplication year. Children learn their times tables, start dividing, meet fractions as numbers on a number line, and find area and perimeter. They read longer chapter books and nonfiction, and they write paragraphs and multi-paragraph pieces. These free worksheets for 3rd graders cover the whole year, with clear pages made for eight- and nine-year-olds.

Math includes a full set of printable multiplication charts, a page for every times table from 0 to 12, timed tests, division, properties of multiplication, word problems, rounding, fractions, area and perimeter, elapsed time, mass and liquid volume, graphs and quadrilaterals, plus morning work for every school day. Literacy includes 30 weekly spelling lists, 3rd grade sight words, vocabulary, dictionary skills, reading passages at three levels, paragraph and opinion writing, grammar such as coordinating conjunctions and abstract nouns, and a complete cursive section. Science and social studies cover weather and climate, inherited traits, fossils, forces and magnets, the three branches of government, economics and map skills.

Pages with one right answer have an answer key, and every topic page lists the skills and standards it practices. Every PDF comes in US Letter and A4 and prints in black and white.

Questions

What should a child know by the end of 3rd grade?

Most third graders finish the year knowing their multiplication facts to 10 × 10, dividing within 100, understanding simple fractions, finding area and perimeter, telling time to the minute, reading chapter books and nonfiction on their own, and writing organized paragraphs.

How can my 3rd grader learn the times tables?

Start with a multiplication chart and the easy tables (2, 5 and 10), then add one table a week with a page of practice and a short timed test. Our multiplication chart page has filled, blank and partly filled charts to practice with.

When do children learn cursive?

Many US schools teach cursive in 2nd or 3rd grade. Our cursive section starts with the alphabet and joining letters, then moves to words, sentences and short passages.

Are there answer keys?

Yes. Every page with one right answer has an answer key on its last page, so you can check work quickly.
