Second grade is the year children become confident, independent readers and writers. They read longer stories and nonfiction on their own, write paragraphs that give an opinion or explain a topic, add and subtract within 100 and work with numbers up to 1,000. These free worksheets for 2nd graders cover the whole year, with clear pages made for seven- and eight-year-olds.
Math covers addition and subtraction with regrouping, three-digit numbers, place value, even and odd numbers, arrays, word problems, time to five minutes, money, measuring with a ruler, graphs, shapes and fractions, plus a daily math review for every school day. Literacy covers 30 weekly spelling lists, 2nd grade sight words, vowel teams, prefixes and suffixes, reading comprehension at three levels, writing prompts, friendly letters and grammar such as collective nouns and irregular plurals. Science and social studies cover states of matter, seeds, landforms, erosion, producers and consumers, timelines, government and map skills.
Pages with one right answer have an answer key, and every topic page lists the skills and standards it practices. Every PDF comes in US Letter and A4 and prints in black and white.
Most second graders finish the year able to read chapter books and nonfiction on their own, write a paragraph about a topic, spell common patterns, add and subtract within 100 with regrouping, understand hundreds, tens and ones, tell time to five minutes, count money and measure in inches and centimeters.
One or two pages a day is plenty. The daily math review is one short page per school day, and pairing a reading page with a book your child chooses helps the skill stick.
