Fourth grade is the year of big numbers and fractions. Children multiply and divide multi-digit numbers, learn long division, work with factors and prime numbers, add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers, meet decimals, and measure angles with a protractor. In reading they summarize, compare points of view and text structures, and in writing they plan and write multi-paragraph essays. These free worksheets for 4th graders cover the whole year, with clear pages made for nine- and ten-year-olds.
Math includes step-by-step long division, multi-digit multiplication with the area model and partial products, factors, multiples and prime numbers, order of operations, place value to a million, fractions and mixed numbers, decimals, angles, symmetry, unit conversion and morning work for every school day. Literacy includes 30 weekly spelling lists, Greek and Latin roots, commonly confused words, reading passages at three levels with some longer reads, figurative language, five-paragraph essays and grammar such as relative pronouns and prepositional phrases. Science and social studies cover energy and circuits, sound and light, the water and rock cycles, layers of the Earth, natural resources, US regions, Native nations, explorers and latitude and longitude.
Pages with one right answer have an answer key, and every topic page lists the skills and standards it practices. Every PDF comes in US Letter and A4 and prints in black and white.
Most fourth graders finish the year able to multiply multi-digit numbers, divide with one-digit divisors including remainders, add and subtract fractions with like denominators, read and compare decimals to hundredths, measure angles, summarize what they read and write organized multi-paragraph essays.
Start with the guided pages, where boxes and arrows show each step: divide, multiply, subtract and bring down. Work two or three problems together, then move to the practice pages. Checking each answer by multiplying the quotient by the divisor and adding the remainder builds confidence.
