About these number 10 worksheets
These number 10 worksheets for preschool give a three, four or five year old six simple ways to meet the number ten. Each page has one job and one short line for the grown-up to read aloud, so a child who cannot read yet can still do it.
Your child traces a big 10 that is one and a half inches tall, colors 10 balls from a larger group, dots the 10 with a dot marker, finds every 10 among the balloons, circles the group of 10 and builds a 10 from playdough. Together they connect the written 10, the word ten and the amount 10.
Every page prints in black and white on US Letter or A4. The find and circle pages have an answer key on page 2.

How to use them
- Start with the playdough mat or the dot marker page. Building and dotting a 10 is easier than tracing it, and both build hand strength.
- On the tracing page, trace the solid 10 at the top with a finger first while you say the cue: 1. Pull down. Lift. 2. Circle back all the way around.
- Count out loud together on Color 10 Balls. Touch each picture as you color it, and stop at 10.
- Use Find the Number 10 and Circle the Group of 10 last, once your child knows what a 10 looks like.
- Slip the playdough mat into a sheet protector so it can be used again and again.
Teaching tips
- 10 is the first number with two digits: a 1 and then a 0, side by side and close together. Write the 1 first, then the 0 right next to it.
- Hold the page still with the helping hand, and use short, chunky crayons: small pieces of crayon encourage a better grip than long ones.
- When your child counts, ask “So how many are there?” at the end. Saying “ten!” again shows they know the last number tells how many.
- Count ten fingers or ten toes, or line up ten toys and count them twice.
Questions teachers and parents ask
How do you teach the number 10 to a preschooler?
Mix seeing, counting and making. Show the written 10, count 10 real objects together, and let your child build a 10 from playdough or dot it with a marker before tracing it with a crayon.
How should my child write the number 10?
Start at the top. 1. Pull down. Lift. 2. Circle back all the way around. The model on the tracing page shows the same steps with numbered arrows.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Find the Number 10 and Circle the Group of 10 have an answer key on page 2. The tracing, coloring, dot marker and playdough pages have no single right answer.
