About these christmas crossword worksheets

These free Christmas crossword puzzles come in three levels. Easy puzzles use picture clues and a word bank, so early readers name each picture and spell the word. Medium puzzles use short definition clues with a word bank. Hard puzzles give clues only.

The hard set includes a reindeer facts puzzle and a Christmas around the world puzzle, so children learn real facts while they solve. Every word in each puzzle crosses another word, and page 2 is the filled-in solution.

Pair them with the Christmas word search and Christmas word scramble pages for a full holiday puzzle packet.

How to use them

  1. Easy: name each picture together first, then let children find the word in the bank and count its letters to choose the right spot.
  2. Medium: solve the clues you are sure of first. The crossing letters give hints for the harder ones.
  3. Hard: let partners solve together, then check with the solution page.

Teaching tips

  • Show children how a number in the grid can start both an Across word and a Down word.
  • Ask children to cross words off the word bank as they use them.
  • Turn a finished puzzle into vocabulary practice: pick three answers and use each one in a sentence.
