These Christmas worksheets for 4th graders practice the big skills of fourth grade with a holiday theme. Children pack ornaments with long division, decide what a remainder means in a story, solve multi-step word problems, add and multiply fractions on cookie trays, and use the 12 Days of Christmas to find a number pattern (and the famous total of 364 gifts). A color-by-number ornament practices multiplying by tens, and a secret message practices 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication.
For reading, there is an original story about fixing Grandpa's old light string and a nonfiction text about what we really know about candy canes. Children also write a how-to for wrapping a present and practice relative pronouns.
Every page with one right answer has a key on page 2. See the Christmas math worksheets page for holiday math at every grade, and the Christmas around the world worksheets for customs in other countries.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.B.5Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.B.6Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.OA.A.3Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.OA.C.5Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule "Add 3" and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.3.DSolve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole and having like denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem.CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.4.CSolve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. For example, if each person at a party will eat 3/8 of a pound of roast beef, and there will be 5 people at the party, how many pounds of roast beef will be needed? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.2Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.4.8Explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in a text.CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.2Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.4.1.AUse relative pronouns (who, whose, whom, which, that) and relative adverbs (where, when, why).364. Each day repeats all the earlier gifts, so day 12 alone has 78 gifts. The 12 Days page has children build the table and find the pattern.
Children divide, then decide what the remainder means for the story: buy one more box, count only full plates, or report what is left over.
Yes. Every page with one right answer has a key on page 2, with the steps for each problem.
