About these cursive capital letters worksheets

In modern cursive, the style on this site, capital letters are simple letters close to print. They reach the top line, and they don't join to the letter after them: write the capital, then start the joined lowercase letters close by. That makes the capitals quick to learn for children who already print well.

Start with the cursive capital letters chart, then work through the A to Z practice pages, four capitals at a time. Each row has a black model at both ends and gray capitals to trace, followed by three names that start with that capital, so children practice each capital the way they will use it.

Two more pages put capitals to work: names of people, pets and places, and short sentences that each start with a capital. Capitals are usually taught after the lowercase letters and joins.

Teaching tips

  • Capitals reach the top line. Keep them the same height as tall letters like l, h and k.
  • Capitals don't join: write the capital, then start the lowercase letters close by, with no more space than between letters.
  • Watch for capitals that come out the size of small letters. A capital always touches the top line.
