About writing worksheets for 3rd graders
In third grade, children write longer pieces with a clear structure: stories with dialogue and a real ending, informative pieces that group facts, and opinions backed by reasons and linking words. They learn to build a paragraph and to plan pieces of two or three paragraphs, and they learn the grammar that makes writing clear: coordinating conjunctions and compound sentences, abstract nouns, possessives, pronouns, comparatives and superlatives, subject-verb agreement, and quotation marks in dialogue.
These writing worksheets for 3rd graders cover all of it. Writing, opinion and journal prompts have plan boxes and full pages of third grade lines. Paragraph pages teach topic sentences, details, linking words and closings. Grammar pages start with a chart to keep and practice each skill with answer keys, and figurative language pages teach similes, metaphors and nonliteral phrases.
Pages print in black and white on US Letter or A4, and every page with right answers has an answer key.
Questions
What writing skills should a 3rd grader have?
By the end of third grade, children write opinions with reasons and a conclusion, informative pieces with facts grouped together, and stories with dialogue, feelings and a clear ending, usually across several paragraphs.
How much should a 3rd grader write?
Most third graders write a page or more: one long paragraph or two to three shorter ones.
Do the grammar worksheets have answer keys?
Yes. Every page with right answers has an answer key. Writing prompts and journal pages have no key, because every answer is different.
What size are the writing lines?
Third grade lines: just under half an inch from the top line to the baseline, with a dashed midline.
