Division stories ask one of two things. How many in each group? (24 stickers shared among 4 friends.) Or how many groups? (24 stickers, 4 for each friend: how many friends?) Children who can tell these two apart can solve almost any 3rd grade division problem.
Each page has three stories with a box to draw, a line for the division sentence and an answer box with the unit. The sharing pages and the how-many-groups pages practice one meaning at a time, and the mixed pages put them together. The keys draw a bar model with the missing part boxed.
Every page has an answer key on page 2 and prints in black and white on US Letter or A4.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.A.3Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.A.2Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares, or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.The total is given and you are splitting it into equal groups. If the story asks how many in each group or how many groups, it is division.
Yes. Page 2 of every PDF shows the division sentence, a bar model and the answer.
