About math worksheets for 3rd graders
Third grade is the multiplication year. Children learn what multiplication and division mean, use arrays, equal groups and the properties of multiplication as strategies, and by the end of the year know every product of two one-digit numbers from memory. They solve two-step word problems with all four operations and write them as equations with a letter for the unknown.
The year has four big ideas besides the facts. Fractions become numbers: unit fractions, fractions on a number line, equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. Area is measured in square units and connected to multiplication, alongside perimeter. Children tell time to the minute and work out elapsed time, measure liquid volume and mass, and read scaled bar and picture graphs. They also round to the nearest 10 and 100 and add and subtract within 1000 fluently.
Practice pages are made fresh from each skill, so most come as Sheet A, B and C with new problems at the same level. The multiplication chart page has every chart a class needs, and a morning work set gives one short review page for every school day of 16 weeks. Every page with right answers has an answer key on page 2, and all pages print in black and white on US Letter or A4.
Questions
What math should a 3rd grader know?
By the end of 3rd grade, children know all products of two one-digit numbers from memory, multiply and divide within 100, solve two-step word problems, round to the nearest 10 and 100, add and subtract within 1000, place fractions on a number line, find area and perimeter, and tell time to the minute.
How can I help my 3rd grader learn the times tables?
A few minutes every day works best. Start with the 2s, 5s and 10s, use a multiplication chart to see the patterns, practice turnarounds (3 × 8 is 8 × 3), and use a timed page once a week so your child can see their progress.
Is there a printable multiplication chart?
Yes. Our multiplication chart page has filled charts from 1–10 to 1–20, landscape posters, blank and partly filled charts with keys, times tables lists and pattern pages.
Is there daily math review for 3rd grade?
Yes. The morning work set has 80 short pages, one for every school day of 16 weeks, each with an answer key.
Are there answer keys?
Yes. Every page with right answers has an answer key on page 2 of the PDF.
