About these letter B worksheets
This is cursive B and b in modern cursive: joined lowercase letters with simple capitals. How to write lowercase b: start at the top line and pull straight down to the baseline. Curve forward and up around the bump to the midline, and finish with a small curl that joins along the midline. How to write uppercase B: pull straight down from the top line. Go back to the top, curve forward to the midline, then curve forward again down to the baseline.
Lowercase b finishes with a small curl at the midline, so the next letter joins along the top instead of swinging up from the baseline: try ba, be and bi. In the usual teaching order, b is learned with the undercurve letters (i, t, u, w, e, l, b, h, f, k, r, s, j, p).
The four worksheets below start with a large chart of B, b and bbb, then give a page each for lowercase b, uppercase B, and joins and words such as bat, bed, bus, bird, book and blue.

How to use them
- Start with the chart page. Read the steps aloud while your child traces the big b with a finger, then writes it on the rows below.
- On the lowercase page, trace each single b, then the joined bbb, then write your own on the blank rows.
- Use the uppercase page for B and names like Ben, Bea and Bo.
- Finish with the words page: the joins, the words bat, bed and bus, and the sentence “Bob has a big blue bus.”
Teaching tips for B
- Lowercase b: Start at the top line and pull straight down to the baseline. Curve forward and up around the bump to the midline, and finish with a small curl that joins along the midline.
- Uppercase B: Pull straight down from the top line. Go back to the top, curve forward to the midline, then curve forward again down to the baseline.
- Watch for b and d mix-ups. The b starts with the tall line and ends with a curl at the midline; the d starts with the round part.
- Print at actual size (100%). The gray letters are solid, so they copy cleanly, and each row has a black model at both ends for left-handed writers.
Questions about letter B
How do you write a cursive b?
Start at the top line and pull straight down to the baseline. Curve forward and up around the bump to the midline, and finish with a small curl that joins along the midline.
How do you write a capital B in cursive?
In modern cursive: pull straight down from the top line. Go back to the top, curve forward to the midline, then curve forward again down to the baseline. Capitals don't join to the next letter, so write the B, then start the lowercase letters close by.
How does cursive b join to other letters?
The b ends at the midline, not on the baseline, so the join slides along the top into the next letter. That's why ba and be look different from words where the join swings up from the baseline.
