About these letter H worksheets
This is cursive H and h in modern cursive: joined lowercase letters with simple capitals. How to write lowercase h: start at the top line and pull straight down to the baseline. Push back up, go over the hump and pull down to the baseline, then flick out. How to write uppercase H: pull straight down on the left. Pull straight down on the right. Slide across on the midline.
Lowercase h ends with a flick on the baseline that swings straight up into the next letter, so hhh and words like hat are written without lifting the pencil. In the usual teaching order, h is learned with the undercurve letters (i, t, u, w, e, l, b, h, f, k, r, s, j, p).
The four worksheets below start with a large chart of H, h and hhh, then give a page each for lowercase h, uppercase H, and joins and words such as hat, hen, hop, home, hill and hand.

How to use them
- Start with the chart page. Read the steps aloud while your child traces the big h with a finger, then writes it on the rows below.
- On the lowercase page, trace each single h, then the joined hhh, then write your own on the blank rows.
- Use the uppercase page for H and names like Hal, Hana and Hugo.
- Finish with the words page: the joins, the words hat, hen and hop, and the sentence “Hal has a hat on.”
Teaching tips for H
- Lowercase h: Start at the top line and pull straight down to the baseline. Push back up, go over the hump and pull down to the baseline, then flick out.
- Uppercase H: Pull straight down on the left. Pull straight down on the right. Slide across on the midline.
- Watch for an h whose hump starts too high, which turns it into a b or a k.
- Print at actual size (100%). The gray letters are solid, so they copy cleanly, and each row has a black model at both ends for left-handed writers.
