About these letter L worksheets
This is cursive L and l in modern cursive: joined lowercase letters with simple capitals. How to write lowercase l: start at the top line. Pull straight down to the baseline and flick out to the right. How to write uppercase L: pull straight down from the top line, then slide right along the baseline.
Lowercase l ends with a flick on the baseline that swings straight up into the next letter, so lll and words like log are written without lifting the pencil. In the usual teaching order, l is learned with the undercurve letters (i, t, u, w, e, l, b, h, f, k, r, s, j, p).
The four worksheets below start with a large chart of L, l and lll, then give a page each for lowercase l, uppercase L, and joins and words such as log, leg, lid, lamp, lion and look.

How to use them
- Start with the chart page. Read the steps aloud while your child traces the big l with a finger, then writes it on the rows below.
- On the lowercase page, trace each single l, then the joined lll, then write your own on the blank rows.
- Use the uppercase page for L and names like Lily, Leo and Liz.
- Finish with the words page: the joins, the words log, leg and lid, and the sentence “Lily likes lemons.”
Teaching tips for L
- Lowercase l: Start at the top line. Pull straight down to the baseline and flick out to the right.
- Uppercase L: Pull straight down from the top line, then slide right along the baseline.
- Watch for an l that is no taller than the midline. It reaches the top line.
- Print at actual size (100%). The gray letters are solid, so they copy cleanly, and each row has a black model at both ends for left-handed writers.
