These vocabulary words for 4th graders are words children meet in novels, science and social studies, and classroom work: precise action words like trudge, scurry and hesitate; feeling words like frustrated, reluctant and astonished; school words like analyze, infer and paraphrase; and nature words like ecosystem, predator and endangered.
The 40 words come in four sets of ten. Each word has a kid-friendly meaning and an example sentence on the list and the word cards. For each set there is a match-the-meaning page and a sentence page where children choose the word that fits, both with answer keys.
Word meaning skills go further: shades of meaning for action words (nibble, eat, devour) and describing words (damp, wet, soaked), precise words for said and walked (whispered, stammered, limped), multiple-meaning words like bank and pitch, and a word map for any new word. Every page prints in black and white on US Letter or A4.
