About math worksheets for 2nd graders
Second grade math moves from tens and ones to hundreds. Children add and subtract within 100 fluently, with and without regrouping, and within 1000 with models and place value. They solve one- and two-step word problems, learn even and odd, and use arrays and equal groups, the first step toward multiplication.
The year has four big ideas. Children add and subtract fluently, knowing their facts within 20 by heart. They understand place value to 1000: hundreds, tens and ones, expanded form and comparing 3-digit numbers. They measure lengths in inches, feet, centimeters and meters, tell time to five minutes, count money and make graphs and line plots. And they describe shapes and split them into halves, thirds and fourths.
Practice pages are made fresh from each skill, so most come as Sheet A, B and C with new problems at the same level. A daily math review set gives one short mixed page for every school day of 16 weeks. Every page with right answers has an answer key on page 2, and all pages print in black and white on US Letter or A4.
Questions
What math should a 2nd grader know?
By the end of 2nd grade, children know their addition facts within 20 from memory, add and subtract within 100 fluently, add and subtract within 1000 with models, understand hundreds, tens and ones, solve one- and two-step word problems, tell time to five minutes, count money, measure length and recognize shapes like pentagons and hexagons.
How can I help my 2nd grader with math at home?
A few minutes a day works better than a long session once a week. Practice facts, count by 5s, 10s and 100s, and talk about math in daily life: how much change, how many minutes until dinner. Use a worksheet to practice the skill you just talked about.
What is regrouping?
Regrouping is trading 10 ones for 1 ten (or 10 tens for 1 hundred) when adding, and 1 ten for 10 ones when subtracting. Some people call it carrying and borrowing.
Is there a daily math review?
Yes. The daily math review set has 80 short pages, one for every school day of 16 weeks, each with mixed practice and an answer key.
Are there answer keys?
Yes. Every page with right answers has an answer key on page 2 of the PDF.
